The Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Muktar Adamu, has expressed concern over the negative portrayal of military activities in the media, citing its adverse impact on the morale of officers.
Speaking during a meeting with the executive members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Akure, Ondo State, Brig Gen Adamu called on the media to adopt a fair, objective, and factual approach when reporting on military operations.
Adamu stressed that the constant negative coverage has a demoralizing effect on military personnel and urged journalists to prioritize accuracy in their reports while still upholding national security.
Recognizing the important role of journalism as a fact-checking body, the commander appealed for support and encouragement from the Nigerian public.
Assuring the public, Adamu stated that the army is actively working together with other security agencies to safeguard the country and its citizens.
The commander also expressed admiration for the active role played by women journalists in the state, acknowledging their efforts in amplifying the voices of women and ensuring their concerns are heard.
Furthermore, Adamu assured the association of the unwavering support of the Army.
Prior to the meeting, Tola Gbadamosi, the chairperson of Ondo NAWOJ, sought the brigade’s support and cooperation in fostering a harmonious working relationship.
Gbadamosi, emphasizing the importance of mutual support and collaboration in achieving common goals, highlighted the association’s readiness to work together with the military.
