Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has taken a proactive step to address the impact of fuel subsidy removal by establishing a 20-member committee responsible for coordinating the distribution of palliative items in the state.
The committee, as announced by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, consists of a diverse array of organizations, agencies, groups, and individuals.
In its initial phase, the distribution will focus on providing grains and other essential foodstuffs to the affected populace, according to a statement obtained by Media Talk Africa on Sunday.
Heading the committee is the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Awwal Tukur.
The committee includes two first-class chiefs, two representatives from the National Assembly, two members from the state House of Assembly, the Commissioner of Humanitarian Services, and the Head of Service.
Additionally, the committee comprises the state chairman of ALGON, the commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade Yola, the commander of the Air Force Base Yola, the Commissioner of Police, the director of DSS, and the commandant of NSCDC.
Membership also extends to representatives from CAN, the Muslim Council, NUJ, NLC, TUC, and NCWS.
Meanwhile, an official from the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) is appointed as the committee’s secretary.
Although the statement from Government House in Yola did not explicitly mention the source of the palliative items, it is worth noting that Adamawa State, alongside other states, will receive a five billion naira fuel subsidy removal grant from the Federal Government.
