In a stern admonition, Governor Muhammad Umar Bago of Niger State has issued a warning to newly sworn-in Commissioners and Special Assistants, urging them to refrain from engaging in corruption, complacency, and docility.
The Governor made it clear that anyone caught in the web of corruption will be swiftly dismissed from his administration.
Addressing the appointees during their swearing-in ceremony in Minna, Governor Bago emphasized that their positions should not be seen as an opportunity for self-enrichment.
“Let me be absolutely clear: there will be no tolerance for complacency, docility, and, most importantly, corruption,” the Governor asserted.
“You must not view your appointment as a gateway to personal gain. If you find yourself entangled in the twisted web of corruption, you will be promptly shown the exit door.”
The Governor also expressed his appreciation for the Speaker and members of the Niger State House of Assembly for their smooth screening and confirmation of nominees, stating that this act demonstrates their commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship among the various arms of government to ensure good governance in the State.
“I want to reiterate that your appointments were made based purely on merit, competence, and a proven track record of hard work and integrity,” Governor Bago remarked.
“Therefore, I expect you to bring these qualities of excellence and dedication to bear on your new assignment.”
Furthermore, the Governor affirmed that his administration is open to constructive criticism and welcomes input from all stakeholders in the governance process.
Prior to the Governor’s address, the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alh. Abubakar Usman, in his welcome speech, emphasized that the nomination, confirmation, and subsequent administration of the oath of office were carried out with utmost thoroughness.
He went on to assure that all political appointees are committed to demonstrating loyalty, dedication, and above all, trustworthiness in carrying out their duties.
