Justice Minister Fagbemi Assumes Office, Employs Firm Stance on Upholding the Law

The newly appointed Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkami Fagbemi, SAN, issued a stern warning on Monday to the employees of the Federal Ministry of Justice, urging them to diligently adhere to the law in the discharge of their official duties.

In an address to the management and staff of the ministry, the esteemed lawyer emphasized the importance of rededicating themselves to the service of Nigeria for its continued progress.

Fagbemi’s inauguration into the federal cabinet as Nigeria’s 24th Attorney General was conducted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside 44 other ministers, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During his address to the workers, Fagbemi highlighted the strategic role the Ministry of Justice plays in the Nigerian project, underscoring that no contract can be executed in Nigeria without clearance from the ministry.

Furthermore, Fagbemi pledged to appoint more Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) to key positions within the ministry during his tenure.

Addressing the issue of compliance and responsibility, the Minister made it clear that disobedience and negligence would not be tolerated among the staff.

He also emphasized the need for a robust partnership with the Solicitor General of the Federation to drive transformation in the justice sector.

During the handover of documents to the Ministry, the Solicitor General of the Federation, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, assured the Minister of her unwavering support and loyalty in achieving the ministry’s mandates.

Among the dignitaries present at the handover ceremony were Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), Chairman and CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Mr. Tony Ojukwu, Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission.
