The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, believes that Nigeria has the potential to not only compete with other countries in various sectors but also in the digital realm.
Speaking with the Heads of Agencies and stakeholders under the Ministry in Abuja on Monday, Tijani urged them to hit the ground running and make the most of this opportunity. He assumed office shortly after being inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu.
Tijani promised to develop policies and regulations that will protect Nigerians from devices that contradict emerging technologies and transform the industry. He emphasized the importance of these policies in opening up more opportunities for people to contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
Furthermore, the minister expressed his commitment to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders in the industry in order to build on the achievements of the ministry. He stressed the need for a comprehensive assessment of the progress made thus far, stating that improvement is impossible without knowing what has been accomplished.
“The best way to make our efforts effective is to use technology that connects our citizens to the services they need in a dignified manner,” Tijani emphasized. “Our goal is to ensure that government services are accessible to people without causing them unnecessary pain.”
Tijani also highlighted the importance of international collaboration, stating that no country can become technologically strong in isolation. He expressed the ministry’s openness to partnering with the best organizations and institutions worldwide to ensure the nation’s progress.
Addressing the challenge of connecting people to opportunities, Tijani acknowledged the critical role of the ministry in unlocking opportunities for Nigerians, regardless of their location. He stressed the need for skills upgrading and continuous learning to stay connected to modern knowledge and uphold dignity in all endeavors.
The Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy oversees several agencies, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Galaxy Backbone (GBB), the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT).
