In a statement released on Tuesday, Manchester City confirmed that their manager, Pep Guardiola, has undergone emergency surgery for a back problem.
The surgery took place in Barcelona, and Guardiola is currently in the process of recovery.
As a result of the procedure, the 52-year-old will be unable to join his team for their upcoming Premier League matches against Sheffield United and Fulham. However, he is expected to return after the September international break.
“Pep Guardiola has today undergone a routine operation to address a back problem,” the statement from Manchester City read.
The club also expressed their well wishes for Guardiola’s speedy recovery and eagerly anticipate his return to Manchester.
This development follows Guardiola’s successful leadership as Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United in their previous match.
