Egypt Discovers New Oil Reserve in Gulf of Suez

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum has recently announced a significant oil discovery in the Geisum and Tawila West concession, located in the Gulf of the Suez.

The discovery was made by Cheiron, Egypt’s leading oil explorer and producer, through the successful drilling of exploration well GNN-11 in the North Geisum field within the aforementioned concession area.

In a statement, the Ministry of Petroleum stated that the well currently yields a production rate of over 2,500 barrels of oil per day. The Geisum and Tawila West Concession encompasses the North Geisum, South Geisum, Northeast Geisum, and Tawila West fields. This concession is strategically positioned at the southern entrance of the Gulf of Suez.

As a result of the successful drilling campaign, the North Geisum field now boasts a total output of 23,000 barrels per day, according to the ministry.

The completion of this well marks the fourth successful drilling project, and the current exploration phase may include an additional three wells, the ministry noted.
