In his quest to elevate Abuja into a world-class capital city, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has called upon the support of FCT Administration (FCTA) workers. He made this appeal during the handover session with FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adesola, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Wike expressed his determination to turn Abuja into a great city that befits the status of being the capital of the most populous nation in Africa. He emphasized his commitment to executing projects diligently, without leaving them unfinished.

“Abandoned projects are not something I endorse. I only begin a project when there are sufficient funds available. We will scrutinize our finances before commencing any project,” Wike affirmed. He expressed his confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s vision and assured Nigerians that they would witness tangible progress in the near future.

However, Wike acknowledged that achieving these goals would be impossible without the support of the FCT workers and residents. He pledged to promptly restore streetlights, enhance public transportation, and improve sanitation to maintain a clean and habitable city.

“Your passion, dedication, and commitment to duty are crucial to our success. We will provide you with all the necessary support, incentives, and resources required to excel in your work. What I expect from you is tangible outcomes. And if I supply the required resources, you must deliver or refund the funds allocated,” Wike emphasized, urging the workers to collaborate closely.

Wike also mentioned that appointments to various departments within the FCTA would be made after extensive consultations with stakeholders. He encouraged directors who believed they lacked the necessary skills to excel in their current roles to seek redeployment to areas where their strengths lay. Failure to achieve desired results would not be tolerated.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for FCT, expressed confidence in Wike’s ability to replicate his accomplishments in Rivers State within the FCT. She pledged to enhance the lives of rural dwellers in the Area Councils and Satellite Towns with the support of FCT workers.

“I expect maximum commitment, cooperation, and loyalty from all staff,” stated Mahmoud. “It will not be business as usual. We will embrace President Tinubu’s vision, which we will unveil as we hit the ground running.”

The permanent secretary, in his remarks, assured the ministers of the unwavering support of the entire FCTA staff to realize President Tinubu’s mandate. He commended the enthusiasm demonstrated by all stakeholders, including the indigenous people of Abuja, to work with the new leadership.

Mr. Shehu Hadi, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, expressed gratitude to Wike and Mahmoud for accepting the challenge of rejuvenating the FCT. Hadi guaranteed their unwavering support and cooperation in making the FCT one of the finest cities in the world.
