APGA National Chairman Applauds Tinubu’s Efforts on Security, Expresses Concerns about High Cost of Governance

The national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Sylvester Ezeokenwa, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his contributions in addressing the country’s economic challenges, particularly in combating insecurity. Speaking during a press conference at the party’s regional headquarters in Awka, Ezeokenwa called on Tinubu to prioritize the reduction of the cost of governance.

“I am pleased with President Tinubu’s performance. He has made significant strides in improving security,” Ezeokenwa said.

“The level of violence in the country has significantly decreased, and the President has established ministries that will help address corruption and promote meaningful development. However, one area we urge the President to focus on is reducing the cost of governance,” he added.

Ezeokenwa stressed that the cost of governance in Nigeria is excessively high and urged President Tinubu to set an example by eliminating wasteful spending.

“Public office is the highest form of charity, and our leaders should view leadership as their sacrifice to the people,” Ezeokenwa emphasized. “Since assuming the position of national chairman of APGA, my lifestyle hasn’t changed. I still live the same way, drive myself, and move around without a retinue of security personnel.”

“Public office holders should emulate this approach, as it would contribute to reducing the cost of governance in Nigeria,” he stated.

Regarding his plans to revamp APGA, Ezeokenwa highlighted his leadership’s commitment to repositioning the party, making it more appealing to the youth, and winning back those who had previously left, including Mr. Peter Obi, while also strengthening the party’s ideology.

“In APGA, our responsibility is to the people. Most of the credit Mr. Peter Obi received during the last election was due to his performance as an APGA governor in Anambra state,” Ezeokenwa explained.

“The achievements attributed to him were accomplished during his tenure as an APGA governor. We intend to meet with Mr. Peter Obi and encourage him to return to APGA, which is his home, and the party he helped build,” he added.

Highlighting the party’s ideological stance, Ezeokenwa stated, “A political party should be based on a clear ideology rather than just being a vehicle for gaining power. We aim to address the issue of party-hopping, where individuals switch parties based on convenience.”

“APGA is committed to restoring and reinforcing its ideology. To be a part of APGA, you must align with and believe in the party’s ideology,” he affirmed.

Furthermore, Ezeokenwa emphasized APGA’s desire to engage young people in politics, offering them a platform to realize their aspirations and contribute to Nigeria’s progress.

“If you are a young person with a genuine interest in transforming Nigeria, you can join us, and together we can work towards achieving that goal,” he said.

“Any progressive-minded individual who desires to see Nigeria thrive is welcome to join APGA. We aim to position APGA as a party that harnesses the intelligence, creativity, and resilience of young people. We will no longer tolerate acts of sabotage or arbitrary party-switching,” Ezeokenwa declared.
