The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the Nigerian Federal Government will employ innovative technology to safeguard the nation’s borders against various threats. Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister stressed the importance of deploying cutting-edge technology in response to the growing global insecurity.
“In light of the prevailing circumstances, it has become imperative to fortify each part of our nation’s borders, be it land, air, or sea, and protect them from potential threats,” said Mr. Tunji-Ojo.
He emphasized the need to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and consolidate their existing measures. Furthermore, he expressed the urgency of securing Nigeria’s territory and stated that there is no alternative but to carry out this essential task promptly.
“As a leader, I believe in leading from the front, not from behind. President Bola Tinubu has given me a clear mandate to initiate essential reforms, which align with this government’s agenda for renewed hope. The Interior Ministry and its affiliated agencies are entrusted with maintaining internal security, making this effort all the more crucial,” the minister asserted.
Assuring Nigerians that the ministry will fulfill the president’s expectations and advance reforms within government agencies, particularly the NIS, which plays a fundamental role in securing the nation’s borders, the minister called on service personnel to demonstrate their commitment and dedication.
Mr. Tunji-Ojo also pledged to address the challenges associated with visa and passport issuance to streamline the system and eliminate unnecessary delays, ensuring improved efficiency and accountability.
This move to secure Nigeria’s borders with state-of-the-art technology underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing national security in the face of evolving threats.
