The Nigerian Army has emphasized the significance of training its finance officers across the country to ensure optimal performance within the confines of the law. The objective of this training is to equip officers and soldiers with the necessary skills to effectively fulfill their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

Maj. Gen. Adetokunbo Fayewimo, the Chief of Accounts and Budget for the Nigerian Army, made this directive while inaugurating a two-day capacity training program for Finance Officers of the 3 Armoured Division at Rukuba Barracks in Jos.

In his address, Maj. Gen. Fayewimo reiterated the importance of recognizing that the participants are first and foremost military personnel, highlighting the need for them to maintain a strong sense of duty towards serving the nation.

The theme for the training program was “Building Capacity for Professional and Efficient Financial Services Delivery in the Nigerian Army,” indicating the focus on enhancing expertise and effectiveness in financial operations.

Maj. Gen. Fayewimo explained that the training program was designed to address the specific needs of finance officers and soldiers at various levels within the division, from the battalion to the company. It serves as an opportunity to update personnel on current government financial policies and equip them with the requisite competencies to perform optimally in their roles.

“The Nigerian Army is fully committed to defeating contemporary threats to our national security,” emphasized Maj. Gen. Fayewimo. He urged finance officers to be proactive and proficient, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of financial services to personnel.

Maj. Gen. Fayewimo stressed the dual nature of being both military personnel and finance officers, emphasizing the significance of maintaining a strong military identity while fulfilling their financial duties.

Furthermore, it was announced that similar trainings will be conducted in all divisions across the country as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of finance officers within the Nigerian Army.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 3 Armoured Division, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, emphasized the vital role of training in any organization, particularly in the military. He stated that training is essential for success in military activities and is therefore crucial to continuously enhance the proficiency of officers and soldiers.

Maj. Gen. Abubakar acknowledged the challenges the country currently faces in terms of security and the economy while affirming the government’s commitment to addressing these issues through public sector reforms. Despite these challenges, he highlighted the Nigerian Army’s unwavering dedication to fulfilling its constitutional roles, ensuring the safety of citizens and prioritizing personnel welfare.

Col. C.H Ajoku, the Acting Commander of Finance and Accounts, emphasized that this training is one of three sub-training programs aimed at providing finance officers with the necessary tools to enhance their performance. He reaffirmed the goal of the training to strengthen the capacity of finance officers in delivering professional services to the Nigerian Army within the 3 Armoured Division.
