The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has addressed and refuted speculations alleging that they owe their security workers more than six months of unpaid salaries. In a statement released on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Dr Pius Ughakpoteni, the Director of Corporate Affairs at NDDC, clarified the matter and dismissed the claims as baseless.
Amidst threats of a peaceful protest by security workers employed by the commission due to non-payment of monthly wages, Ughakpoteni firmly stated that NDDC is not directly responsible for the remuneration of their security staff. Instead, it is the contractors hired by the commission who hold the responsibility for their salaries.
Quashing the rumors, Ughakpoteni addressed the issue, stating, “We are aware of the reports in the media claiming that our security workers were threatening to protest non-payment of their monthly salaries. We wish to state that the commission engages security companies, who employ and pay security guards to work at our various offices, to safeguard our facilities. These service providers are certainly not being owed for six months as alleged in the media reports.”
