Former Benue Governor, Ortom, Appeals for Peace as Supporters Criticize State Government Amidst Allegations

Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, is calling on his supporters to remain calm amid accusations of looting leveled against him and his former colleagues by the present administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The current administration recently accused Ortom and others of embezzlement, leading to his invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on June 21, 2023. The EFCC allegedly recovered certain properties owned by the state government from the former governor.

Ortom’s supporters, outraged by what they perceive as harassment, have resorted to derogatory remarks against the incumbent governor and his team.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, appealed to the supporters to maintain calm and refrain from further heating up the political atmosphere.

The former governor affirmed his ability to address the allegations made against him and his former government officials, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

Ortom reiterated his willingness to make himself available to address any matters concerning his administration, whenever necessary.
