Renowned Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has made a compelling plea to the Federal Government, urging them to discontinue the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in light of the worsening insecurity plaguing the nation.

This recommendation comes in the wake of the recent abduction of eight NYSC members along a highway in Zamfara State, which has further heightened concerns about the safety of Corps members.

Expressing her viewpoint on Twitter, Henshaw emphasized that with the alarming security risks faced by Corps members, it is essential to reconsider the viability of the NYSC program.

She asserted, “It is imperative for the government to cease exposing the lives of young individuals to obsolete ideas.”

Recalling her own experience, the seasoned actress shared, “During my service in the North, I had an unforgettable experience. I could travel safely from Bauchi to the airport and then fly to Lagos using just my NYSC ID card, which also granted me a ticket discount.”

She further added, “However, in light of the current plight of corpers, who cannot travel within the country without obstacles and undue interference, it is high time we abandon this concept!”

Henshaw passionately concluded, “Our primary concern should be the safety and well-being of young people. We need to tackle the issue of security head-on, instead of resorting to mere technicalities.”
