An Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has scheduled October 3rd as the date for the judgment in a lawsuit filed by Prince Mohammed Kabir Olaoye. The lawsuit challenges the nomination of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye by the kingmakers as the Soun of Ogbomoso.

Media Talk Africa reported that the Soun of Ogbomoso throne became vacant following the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi on December 12, 2021.

Justice A.K. Adedokun fixed the judgment date on Tuesday.

After the adoption of their processes and the presentation of arguments for and against the suit marked HOG/27/2022, Prince Olaoye’s counsel, Oladapo Atanda, and Kolawole Fatoye, who represented Ghandi and the kingmakers, the date for the judgment was set.

In the suit, Olaoye requested, among other reliefs, that the court invalidate the nomination and order a fresh nomination process.

The defendants named in the case include the Oyo State governor, the Attorney General of the state, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ogbomoso North Local Government, Ogbomoso North Traditional Council, and Prince Amos Olawole Olaoye (Mogaji Olaoye ruling house), who are the 1st to 6th defendants respectively.

The 7th to 11th defendants are the kingmakers led by Chief S.O. Otolorin (Areago of Ogbomoso and chairman), Chief Salawu Ajadi (Jagun), Chief Tijani Abioye (Bara), Chief David Adeniran Ojo (Ikolaba), and Chief Yusuf Kasali Oladipupo (Abese). Prince Ghandi Olaoye, the Soun nominee, is the 12th defendant.
