Keyamo’s Appointment as Minister of Aviation Criticized for Hot Temper

The appointment of Festus Keyamo as Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has come under scrutiny, with concerns raised about his temperament. Auwal Rafsanjani, the Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), expressed doubts about Keyamo’s suitability for the role during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

Rafsanjani emphasized the need for a minister with a stable mind, stating that Keyamo’s hot-tempered nature could potentially create chaos within the industry. He also noted that Keyamo’s appointment seemed like a move by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to embarrass him, considering their past clashes over documents. Rafsanjani further questioned the political integrity of appointing someone whom Tinubu had deemed corrupt.

According to Rafsanjani, the Ministry of Aviation requires a leader with a strong character, capable of handling the responsibilities without causing disruptions. He suggested that Keyamo should have been given a less controversial position, given his confrontational approach. Rafsanjani highlighted the European Union’s report on the last election, which described Keyamo’s actions and utterances as undemocratic.

“He has to moderate his approach. He is a hot-tempered person,” Rafsanjani said, stressing the importance of having someone with a stable mind at the helm of such a critical ministry.
