FCT Collapsed Building: Landlord Ordered to be Arrested by Nyesom Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken swift action in response to the tragic collapse of a two-storey building in Abuja. With a commitment to ensuring justice is served, Wike has ordered the arrest of the building’s landlord.

The devastating incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening at Lagos Crescent, Garki II, resulted in the loss of two lives, while 20 others have been evacuated to hospitals for treatment.

Inspecting the collapsed building alongside officers from Development Control, Wike expressed his deep concern over the negligence that led to the collapse. He emphasized the importance of following established building regulations and obtaining necessary approvals to safeguard lives and prevent such tragedies.

Wike stated, “When the government requires a building plan, it is not meant to inconvenience anyone, but rather to ensure the safety and protection of all. Proper urban planning is integral to mitigating such occurrences. Just think about the risks associated with constructing a building without proper approval.”

In light of this incident, Wike emphasized the need to identify and hold accountable the owner of the property. He stressed that the government would take over the area and prevent any further development from taking place in the vicinity.

Furthermore, Wike directed the FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, to expedite the process of raising funds to cover the medical expenses of those who were rescued from the collapsed building.

This prompt action by Minister Nyesom Wike serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens. Through the enforcement of building regulations and holding negligent individuals accountable, it is hoped that such incidents can be prevented in the future.
