Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has urged the wives of police officers to acquire medical skills to better care for the health of their husbands. Highlighting the importance of equipping police officers’ wives with medical knowledge, Abiodun emphasized that it would contribute to protecting them from diseases.
The governor made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Kayode Egbetokun, at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta.
In his address, Governor Abiodun advised POWA members to prioritize their well-being and that of their spouses by gaining basic health knowledge, including understanding their blood pressure and general health status, as well as undergoing regular medical check-ups. He emphasized the need for precautionary measures to address health challenges that may arise from the hazardous nature of their spouses’ jobs as police officers.
Abiodun stated, “I want to encourage your association to work with members so that they can support their husbands in protecting them from diseases that are silent killers, including diabetes and hypertension, among others.”
The governor also assured the association of the state government’s support for their Young Women in Agriculture Programme. Representing Governor Abiodun, Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele further indicated that the vocational training programs initiated by the administration would be beneficial to the members of POWA.
During the meeting, Mrs Egbetokun acknowledged the vital role women play in agriculture, noting that it sustains livelihoods and generates wealth for them. She commended the impact of the Young Women in Agriculture Programme on the members of POWA, particularly as a source of sustenance for widows within the association.
Mrs Egbetokun expressed concern for the plight of widows and highlighted the challenges they face as the sole providers for themselves and their children after losing a breadwinner. She stressed that agriculture is a viable means of livelihood for widows, offering sustainability, prosperity, and multiple benefits for them and the nation.
