The Nasarawa State Police Command has recently apprehended and paraded 19 suspected criminals. Alongside this significant breakthrough, they have also successfully recovered three firearms and 11 pieces of ammunition.

In an official statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, these remarkable achievements were confirmed at the command’s headquarters in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State.

Nansel further disclosed that amidst the apprehended suspects, Abubakar Saidu, a 38-year-old individual, and his wife were involved in the distressing act of kidnapping their two-year-old neighbor’s son.

“On 13/08/2023 at about 1530hrs, one Adamu Abdullahi ‘M’ of Orange Market Mararaba, Karu LGA reported that his 2-year-old son had been missing for two weeks, and all efforts to trace his whereabouts proved abortive,” Nansel stated solemnly. He continued, “However, on the same date, he received a call from an unknown person demanding a ransom of two million, five hundred thousand Naira (#2,500,000.00).”

The Nasarawa State Police Command swiftly responded to the distress call by deploying a team of detectives to pursue the abductors. Subsequently, the following suspects, Abubakar Saidu (38 years old), Yusuf Yusuf (23 years old), and Haruna Garba (50 years old), all males from Orange Market, were apprehended in connection to the crime,” Nansel revealed.

In the face of undeniable evidence, the suspects confessed to their grievous crime and expressed remorse for their actions.

Abubakar Saidu, one of the prime suspects, humbly stated, “I deeply regret my role in the kidnapping of the two-year-old boy. The parents are our close neighbors; however, the desperation for money clouded my judgment, leading us to commit this heinous act. It was during the negotiation for the ransom that the attentive police force successfully tracked and arrested us.”

With these arrests, the Nasarawa State Police Command has once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. As the criminal justice process unfolds, it is hoped that justice will be served, providing solace to the victim’s family and acting as a stern warning to potential wrongdoers.
