N185bn palliative: Nigerians are not beggars – BudgIT warns governors

BudgIT, a tech civic advocacy group, has warned the 36 state governors, including the Federal Capital Territory, that Nigerians must not receive the N185 billion fuel subsidy palliatives like beggars.

In a statement, Iyanuluwa Bolarinwa, the Acting Head of Open Government and Institutional Partnership at BudgIT, disclosed this on Thursday.

Bolarinwa was reacting to a video making the rounds on Social Media, which alleged that citizens are receiving palliative amid zero decorum.

As a solution, the group urged that the government publish a transparent sharing formula of the palliatives for accountability and transparency.

“Acts like this will not establish who received what, thereby defeating the purpose of transparency and accountability,” he said.

“Without a comprehensive framework, the risk of these resources not reaching the most vulnerable of society is high,” BudgIT added.

Media Talk Africa recalls that the National Economic Council, NEC approved the disbursement of N5 billion each to the 36 states including FCT.
