Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamed Dbeibah has made an announcement regarding the arrest of a senior member of the Islamic State (IS) who was responsible for the deadly attacks in the capital city of Tripoli in 2018.

During his speech, Prime Minister Dbeibah revealed that the country’s security forces apprehended a high-ranking leader of IS on Tuesday afternoon. This individual played a key role in planning and orchestrating suicide operations that targeted major government institutions and government employees in 2018.

Prime Minister Dbeibah has made a solemn commitment to combat all forms of terrorism within and beyond Libya’s borders. He has vowed to work towards stabilizing the country, implementing reforms in the security and military sectors, and restoring normalcy in all parts of Libya.

In 2018, a series of devastating attacks were carried out by the Islamic State in Tripoli, targeting the headquarters of the Higher Commission of Elections, the National Oil Corporation, and the Foreign Ministry. These heinous acts claimed the lives of at least 19 innocent individuals, while leaving dozens of others injured.

This recent arrest marks a significant achievement for Libyan authorities in their ongoing fight against terrorism. It serves as a testament to their dedication and determination in maintaining peace and security within the country.
