In a bid to combat poverty and uplift the lives of millions of Nigerians, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has revealed that the government is set to unveil a Humanitarian Fund.
During an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Dr. Edu disclosed that this fund is expected to help lift an astounding 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.
Earlier this week, Dr. Edu had made a similar announcement, emphasizing the government’s commitment to eradicating poverty across the nation.
When asked about the strategies in place to achieve such an ambitious target, the Minister explained that the unveiling of the humanitarian funds would play a crucial role.
She further reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and assured Nigerians that they would be kept informed about the plans and agenda.
“We are currently working on a comprehensive action plan. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already set the agenda,” Dr. Edu stated.
She also mentioned that the humanitarian fund would be a collaboration between the federal government, private sector, and international organizations, ensuring broad-based support and resources.
“We will be very transparent with Nigerians, and our target is to lift 133 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030,” Dr. Edu affirmed.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics Poverty Index, approximately 130 million Nigerians currently live in poverty, highlighting the urgency and significance of this endeavor.
