The Nigerian military mourns the loss of 22 brave officers who tragically lost their lives in combat in Niger State. With heavy hearts, their final resting place is set to be the National Military Cemetery in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
This somber event comes after the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed the devastating news on August 14th that 36 officers were killed in battle. These individuals were part of a mission where their helicopter was shot down by insurgents in the Zungeru area of Niger State.
Initially deployed to Kundu village in Wushishi Local Government Area to combat the recent wave of banditry, these courageous soldiers fought valiantly until the very end. Some of their families have already laid them to rest, but today, the nation bids a final farewell to the remaining 22 fallen heroes.
Among the mourners is the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and other service chiefs, who stand in solidarity at the cemetery.
