A nonprofit organization, Zamfara State Concerned Citizens, has raised alarm over the recent surge in tuition fees across higher learning institutions, urging Governor Dauda Lawal to intervene.
The group expressed concern that the steep increase in tuition fees would dissuade many individuals from pursuing education for their children.
In a letter addressed to the Governor and shared with journalists on Thursday, the group stated:
“We draw your attention to an urgent matter that warrants immediate intervention: the unjustified and alarming hike in tuition fees at the Federal University Gusau, FUG.”
“The Federal University Gusau, renowned for its academic excellence, has played a pivotal role in shaping the futures of numerous young individuals from our state. However, the exorbitant increase in tuition fees has sent shockwaves through the student community and their families, jeopardizing the dreams and aspirations of many talented students hailing from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.”
“Education not only upholds a fundamental right but also serves as the cornerstone of progress and development within any society. The sudden and substantial surge in tuition fees has unfairly burdened students and their families, compelling many to reconsider pursuing higher education altogether.”
“This unfortunate situation undermines the core principles of equality and inclusivity that Nigeria aspires to uphold.”
The group also implored the Federal Government to address this pressing issue, underscoring the mounting concerns of parents and students.
