Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has called upon the management of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to establish more entrepreneurship centres in the state. These centres, he believes, would help empower and train the youth in various skills, enabling them to become self-reliant and less dependent on the government for sustenance.
The governor made this plea during a meeting with officials from TETFUND on Friday. Additionally, Governor Kefas also requested the construction of e-libraries and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres to cater to students taking the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other examinations.
With great resolve, Governor Kefas affirmed his commitment to personally supervise any TETFUND projects implemented in the state. He stated, “A partnership with TETFUND is crucial for the delivery of quality education in Taraba State.”
During the meeting, Governor Kefas informed the officials about his recent declaration of a free education policy and the downward review of school fees at higher institutions. He emphasized that the lack of education is one of the primary causes of insecurity in the state, as well as throughout the entire country. In his words, “When everyone has access to education, there will be a significant decrease in criminal activities.”
TETFUND’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, expressed that the governor’s request will be given utmost priority. He acknowledged that TETFUND has already been involved in various institutions within the state, focusing on constructing essential infrastructure and providing training for staff. Echono reiterated TETFUND’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Taraba State.
