In an impressive show of strength and determination, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters has announced that the armed forces have successfully neutralized 23 terrorists, apprehended 109 criminals, and captured five kidnappers in the span of just nine weeks.
Furthermore, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, revealed in a statement on Friday that the troops have successfully rescued 41 individuals who were held captive by their captors.
Moreover, the military operation led to the surrender of 231 terrorists and their families. This group comprised of 25 adult males, 63 adult females, and 143 children who decided to abandon their destructive path in the troubled North East region.
In addition, the troops made significant recoveries, including 41 weapons and 300 assorted ammunition. The arsenal included 14 AK47 rifles, one AK49 rifle, two AK47 rifles loaded with 7.62mm special ammunition, and one PKT gun.
Other weapons seized included one LMG, two pump-action guns, two locally fabricated pistols, three locally fabricated rifles, two dane guns, one pistol, and two locally made long barrel guns.
The recovery efforts of the troops also resulted in the confiscation of one AK47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK47 magazine, one magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 239 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, five rounds of 7.62 NATO, 44 rounds of PKT ammo, 5 rounds of 9mm ammo, and 6 cartridges.
Furthermore, during operations in the South-South geopolitical zone, the troops successfully intercepted illegal activities, leading to the arrest of 682,400 liters of stolen crude oil, 70,950 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 23,250 liters of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).
These combined recoveries amounted to an estimated sum of N414.3 million, effectively denying these oil thieves the ill-gotten gains of their illegal operations.
Emphasizing the military’s unwavering commitment towards combating insecurity and instability, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba assured the public that the Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to relentlessly pursue violent groups.
He concluded by pledging that the troops will consistently strive to improve the safety and security of the nation, providing citizens with a renewed sense of reassurance.
