Stop encroaching on state lands – Ogun govt warns

The Ogun State Government has sent strong warning to those acquiring or occupying any of its lands without obtaining necessary documents.

The Director General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Arc. Segun Fowora, in a statement by the Press Officer, Bisi Fabajo, warned that it is also unlawful to sell any of such lands.

According to the statement, Fowora gave the warning during an exercise carried out by a task force set up by the Bureau to enforce necessary land procedures.

The DG had stressed that encroaching on government lands as well as erecting buildings on such lands without government approval does not only contravene the law, but it also distorts town planning activities and other initiatives of government.

The DG threatened that apart from heavy fines, “those who encroach on government lands might end up losing such land.”

He advised the people to follow due process by obtaining necessary approvals to prevent losing such lands and properties.

Fowora urged the masses to seek professional advice before obtaining lands at various places within the state.

This, he stated, is to know the status of such properties to avoid the illegal transactions in purchasing lands.

Also speaking, the leader of the 10-man task force in the Bureau, Fatal Adeboyejo, advised the general public to desist from patronising land speculators popularly called ‘Omo onile’ in the state.

Adeboyejo warned that the failure to comply with appropriate procedures for land transactions would attract sanctions punishable under the law, even as he charged prospective investors to contact the Bureau of Lands and Survey, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, for any land-related matters.
