The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather outlook for the weekend, predicting a combination of cloudiness and sunshine from Saturday to Monday across the country. According to NiMet, there will be spells of sunshine over the northern region, with the possibility of thunderstorms in certain states.
On Saturday, the northern region is expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, with the likelihood of thunderstorms in Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected in Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Katsina, Kano, Yobe, and Jigawa States.
For the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere is anticipated in the morning, with the possibility of rain showers in the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger States. In the afternoon, thunderstorms and rain are expected in Plateau, Kogi, Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Kwara States.
In the southern inland and coastal states, a cloudy atmosphere is expected in the morning, with chances of light rains in Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers States. Thunderstorms and rains are anticipated later in the day in Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River States.
On Sunday, the northern region will experience a combination of cloudy atmosphere and intervals of sunshine, with the possibility of thunderstorms in Kaduna, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Zamfara, and Taraba States in the morning. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are forecasted in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Gombe, and Bauchi States.
In the North Central region, a cloudy atmosphere with prospects of thunderstorms is expected in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and rains in the afternoon in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Plateau States.
For the southern inland and coastal states, a cloudy atmosphere is expected in the morning, with the likelihood of rains in Abia, Ebonyi, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States. Intermittent rains are anticipated later in the day in Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Enugu, Ekiti, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States.
On Monday, the northern region will experience a combination of cloudy skies with sunshine intervals, and there is a possibility of morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Taraba States. The afternoon is expected to bring thunderstorms in Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno States.
In the North Central region, thunderstorms are anticipated in the morning in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States, followed by thunderstorms across the entire region later in the day. The inland cities of the South and the coastal states can expect a cloudy atmosphere, with the possibility of rains in Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom during the morning hours. Later in the day, there are chances of thunderstorms with rains in Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Rivers, and Cross River States.
NiMet has issued a cautionary statement, advising the public to take necessary precautions during the rainy season, as moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods. They also urge airline operators to regularly check weather reports and alerts from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
