The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, emphasized on Saturday the importance of the State Executive Council members not betraying the trust placed in them by the people of the state.
In a statement by the Press Secretary to the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Shuaibu Abdullahi, Governor Buni delivered this charge at the opening ceremony of a two-day retreat held in Kano for the Council members.
The Governor highlighted that the timing of the retreat, just one week after their inauguration, demonstrates his administration’s commitment to forming a capable team that can effectively address the state’s developmental challenges.
“We should embrace innovation and adapt modern ideas to enhance our effectiveness and efficiency in fulfilling our individual and collective responsibilities,” he advised.
Governor Buni further explained that the government aims to promote inter-ministerial coordination and collaboration in implementing the 11-point agenda set by his administration.
He listed the achievements of his administration in various sectors such as security, education, health, agriculture, commerce, housing, and rural infrastructure.
The Governor emphasized that the eleven-point agenda was developed to guide the implementation of policies and programs that would drive the development of the state and the country.
“None of the above can be achieved without reorienting our people to be industrious and enlightening them on our programs,” he stated.
“Adherence to due process will remain the guiding principle in the execution of all policies and programs,” he added.
Governor Buni expressed his optimism that the retreat would instill financial discipline in the new Executive Council members, as required by the law.
“As public office holders, we must uphold prudence, transparency, probity, and accountability,” he advised.
In his remarks, the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, stated that the theme of the retreat, “Repositioning Yobe to be the Pride of the Nation,” is fitting.
He also highlighted that the retreat’s objective is to prepare the new members of the State Executive Council for their roles and responsibilities.
Wali commended the state government for organizing the retreat and expressed his hope that it would yield the desired results.
