YOWICAN cancels Adamawa chapter election

The national secretariat of the Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, has cancelled the election into the offices of its Adamawa State chapter.

The election was conducted on Friday amid controversies, and two blocs of the wing had earlier on Saturday addressed the media, alleging that organisers did not follow the correct procedure.

In its reaction via a memo obtained by Media Talk Africa in the latter part of Saturday, the YOWICAN headquarters in Abuja nullified the said election.

In the memo to the chairman of CAN in Adamawa State, Rev Dami Mamza, the National Chairman of the association, Belusochukwu Enwere, stated that the election was nullified because it was conducted without the directive of the national chairman.

“I write to inform you of the nullification and outright cancellation of the Adamawa State YOWICAN election held on 25th August, 2023. This is sequel to the suspension of the said election slated to hold on 25th August, 2023 but was held without the directive of the National chairman.

“Based on this, the Secretary (of YOWICAN who supervised the election) violated YOWICAN Bye-law article 8:11 vi for the execution of YOWICAN’s activities and programmes for the said election.”

The election of the Adamawa State executives of YOWICAN generated disquiet, leading to its outright rejection by the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, and Organizations of African Instituted Churches (OAIC).
