After former President Donald Trump’s historic mugshot circulated widely, his campaign has experienced a significant boost, raising $7.1 million in funds. A substantial portion of this revenue stems from the sale of merchandise adorned with Trump’s scowling face, including mugs, T-shirts, and drink coolers.
Mr. Trump’s arrest came as he faces charges associated with an alleged plot to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. Currently campaigning for the 2024 US election, the former president is confronted with three additional indictments. These include charges pertaining to his false claims about election fraud and his supporters’ attack on the Capitol in Washington.
Trump firmly denies all allegations, asserting that the cases brought against him are politically motivated. This rationale is premised on his belief that he is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, positioning himself to challenge Democratic Party incumbent President Joe Biden.
The attention generated by Mr. Trump’s legal battles has served to galvanize his supporters, resulting in an impressive fundraising total of nearly $20 million within a three-week span since his indictments in the Georgia and Capitol riots cases.
Notably, immediate after his arrest in Georgia, Trump raised $4.18 million—a record-breaking figure for his current campaign. Alongside the sale of merchandise through their online store, the campaign has been actively soliciting support from its loyal base.
Last Thursday, Mr. Trump himself made a long-awaited return to the social media landscape by posting on X (formerly Twitter) for the first time since January 2021. In the post, he shared his mugshot, accompanied by the caption “Election interference. Never surrender!” and a link to his website.
This high-profile photo opportunity transpired after the former president complied with authorities’ orders, surrendering at Fulton County jail and subsequently paying a bail sum of $200,000 as he awaits trial.
