The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant seizures of suspected hard drugs in multiple states across Nigeria. Between August 21st and August 23rd, NDLEA operatives intercepted a total of 514,420 pills of suspected hard drugs in Gombe, Adamawa, Ogun, and other parts of the federation.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on August 21st, officers recovered an abandoned vehicle on Darazo Road in Gombe State containing 373,420 tramadol and diazepam pills. Furthermore, on August 22nd, operatives apprehended a suspect travelling in a commercial Toyota Starlet car from Kalaa village to Mubi in Adamawa, confiscating 60,000 pills of tramadol.
Continuing their crackdown, NDLEA operatives raided the home of a drug dealer in the Ibafo area of Ogun on August 23rd and recovered 81,000 tablets of tramadol weighing 32.4kg. In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), two consignments of suspected skunk with a gross weight of 1,242.1kg were intercepted. The first consignment, weighing 665.1kg, was seized from a truck in Abuja on August 20th. The second consignment, weighing 577kg, was discovered during a stop-and-search operation on the Lokoja-Abaji Expressway. The skunk was concealed in goods delivery packs from an online shopping company, inside a containerised truck. The driver and his assistant were subsequently arrested.
Additionally, on August 22nd, NDLEA operatives conducting a stop-and-search operation on the Jebba-Minna Road intercepted a commercial truck transporting goods from Lagos to Katsina. Among the items hidden inside the truck, 37.5kg of suspected Indian hemp was found. The driver and his assistant were arrested for further investigation.
In Yobe State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a vehicle on the Potiskum-Gombe Road on August 23rd. Three suspects in the vehicle were arrested with 133 blocks of suspected Indian hemp, weighing 62kg.
These seizures by the NDLEA demonstrate the agency’s commitment to combating the drug trade in Nigeria and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its citizens.
