Remo Stars Fall Short: Medeama Triumphs in CAF Champions League Penalty Shootout

In a dramatic turn of events, Remo Stars bid farewell to the CAF Champions League after succumbing to Ghana’s Medeama SC in a tense penalty shootout, ending with a scoreline of 3-2.

Under the guidance of Daniel Ogunmodede, Remo Stars emerged victorious in the preliminary round second leg clash, securing a 1-0 win.

A pivotal moment occurred 18 minutes before the final whistle when Medeama SC’s goalkeeper unintentionally fumbled a corner kick into his own net, granting Remo Stars the advantage.

In a thrilling climax, Samuel Anakwe appeared to secure victory for the hosts in stoppage time, only for his goal to be disallowed due to an offside infringement.

With the aggregate score tied at 1-1, the match headed into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

Ultimately, Medeama emerged victorious, converting three penalties, while Remo Stars managed to slot in two.

Unfortunately, Remo Stars’ exit from the CAF Champions League was not an isolated event, as fellow Nigerian representatives Enyimba also suffered defeat in their encounter with Libya’s Al-Ahly Benghazi, culminating in a 4-3 aggregate loss.
