Association of African Private Universities Names Secretariat Building After Kwankwaso

The Association of African Private Universities (AAPU) has paid homage to Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, by naming its secretariat building after him. The unveiling ceremony took place in Kano on Saturday, with Mr. Kwankwaso expressing his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him.

During the event, Mr. Kwankwaso emphasized the crucial role education plays in promoting socio-economic development. He commended the founder of four international universities, Mr. Gwarzo, highlighting the positive impact of the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano. The university has not only created job opportunities for the unemployed but has also fostered a flourishing research environment that produces innovative solutions with valuable commercial applications.

The President of AAPU, Prof. Adamu Abubakar-Gwarzo, explained that the decision to name the secretariat building after Mr. Kwankwaso was in recognition of his significant contributions to the development of education in Nigeria. Mr. Gwarzo, who is also the founder of four international private universities, firmly believes that Mr. Kwankwaso’s legacy in educational reform in Kano State will be remembered favorably in history.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Adamu encouraged affluent individuals in society to follow Mr. Kwankwaso’s lead in promoting educational empowerment as a means to build and uplift communities. The deputy governor, while delivering the governor’s address, expressed gratitude on behalf of the NNPP leader for the honor bestowed upon him by AAPU. He also pledged to collaborate with Mr. Gwarzo to further enhance human capital development in the state. The governor affirmed his commitment to continuing the educational policies initiated during the Kwankwaso administration, ensuring that the less privileged have access to opportunities for career development.

During the event, Prof. Mohammad Israr, President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), expressed his appreciation to Mr. Kwankwaso and his team for accepting the invitation despite their busy schedules. Prof. Abubakar Sadiq-Haruna, Secretary-General of AAPU, in his vote of thanks, highlighted Mr. Kwankwaso’s selflessness and commitment to promoting the common good.
