The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) has issued a warning to residents, specifically those residing in flood-prone areas, urging them to vacate immediately.

In a statement released on Monday by Terfa Anar, Principal Media Aide to BSEMA ES, the Acting Executive Secretary, Sir James Anodoakaa Iorpuu, highlighted that this precautionary measure is a response to the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon into the River Benue.

BSEMA has initiated a comprehensive sensitization and awareness campaign in at least 22 local government areas situated along the banks of the River Benue, instructing residents to remain on high alert.

James Iorpuu emphasized the importance of moving to higher ground for safety and revealed that public schools have been designated as evacuation centers.

The identified flood-prone areas within Makurdi, the state capital, as identified by the BSEMA Boss, include Achusa, Idye, Wurukum market, Genabe, Industrial layout, Demekpe, Wadata market, Rice Mill, Inongun, Agbohough, Judges Quarters, and Gyado Villa.
