The Jigawa State chapter of the Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) has expressed grave concerns over the alleged marginalization of its members in the ongoing distribution of palliatives in the state.

During a briefing with journalists, the association’s chairman, Hon Adamu Shuaibu, brought attention to this pressing issue. He stated that the state government is disregarding the provisions outlined in the state’s Persons with Disabilities Law (2016).

“Despite the existence of a law that addresses certain challenges faced by PWDs, such as accessibility to buildings and economic empowerment, the government seems to be neglecting our concerns,” Adamu revealed.

Adamu further explained that Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), just like any other Nigerian, are also enduring the consequences of fuel subsidy removal, but they were overlooked in the ongoing distribution of palliatives across the 27 local government areas of the state.

“According to the law, we should be included in all the committees established by the government to handle the distribution of palliatives,” he added.

Adamu urged the state government to fully implement the PWDs law, ensuring that the rights and needs of disabled individuals are given priority.
