The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has acknowledged the challenges faced by governments in providing food to every resident. Governor Zulum made this statement during the distribution of food items to 18,000 households in the Damboa Local Government Area on Monday. He emphasized that his government has identified the most vulnerable citizens to be the beneficiaries of the subsidy removal palliatives, aimed at mitigating the impact of the prevailing hardship in the state.

“It is important to recognize that no government, whether federal, state, or local, can feasibly provide food items to the entire community,” Governor Zulum stated. “In light of this, we have carefully selected the most vulnerable individuals across all local governments to receive assistance. Gwoza and Damboa in Southern Borno have been greatly affected by food shortages, while almost all the LGAs in the Northern part of the state are also experiencing these challenges, with the exception of Kaga, Magumeri, and Gubio. In the central region, the areas most affected are Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere.”

Governor Zulum’s remarks reflect the reality of the situation on the ground, as no government, regardless of its resources, can feasibly cater to the needs of every single resident. By targeting the most vulnerable individuals across the state, the Borno State government aims to provide relief to those most in need, particularly in areas where food scarcity is most acute.

The initiative to distribute food items to households aligns with efforts to alleviate the prevailing hardship faced by residents. Governor Zulum’s focus on identifying the areas most impacted by food shortages demonstrates his commitment to addressing the immediate and pressing needs of these communities. By providing targeted assistance, the government aims to cushion the effect of the ongoing hardship and ensure that the most vulnerable individuals receive the support they require during these challenging times.

While the challenges of food scarcity persist, the Borno State government’s proactive approach signifies a step in the right direction. By acknowledging the limitations of government intervention and strategically directing resources towards the most affected areas, Governor Zulum’s administration demonstrates its commitment to addressing the urgent needs of the people. As the state continues to navigate these difficult times, it is vital for all stakeholders to unite in finding sustainable solutions that will uplift the most vulnerable members of society.
