The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s candidate in the February 25 presidential election, for alleged anti-party activities. The BoT has also suspended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
During a special general assembly held at the Rockview Hotels in Apapa, the suspension, which will last for six months, was put to a voice vote by party members. The BoT unanimously appointed new national officers, with Dr. Agbo Major as the Acting National Chairman and Ogini Olaposi as the Acting National Secretary, along with 18 others.
Speaking at the end of the meeting in Lagos, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, Secretary of the BoT, accused Kwankwaso of associating with President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar (the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party), and Peter Obi (the presidential candidate of the Labour Party) without the authorization of the board.
Abdulahi announced that Kwankwaso had been stripped of his position as the NNPP national leader by the board, considering it a flagrant violation of the party’s constitution. He also emphasized that the purported suspension of the NNPP founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, was a gross violation of the party’s constitution.
According to Abdulahi, the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Kwankwasiya Movement, The National Movement (TNM), and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) had been voided by the actions of the NWC.
Commenting on the issue, the Acting Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, stated that his team would work towards healing the wounds caused by the suspended NWC members. He assured party members that the NNPP would remain the most friendly party in the country and called on displaced members to return to its fold.
The special general assembly meeting was attended by the new NWC members and party members from various parts of the country.
