In the midst of uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff of the Super Eagles, defender Kenneth Omeruo has expressed his concern and called for a swift resolution.
Nigeria is set to face Sao Tome and Principe in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the beginning of next month, but the future of head coach Jose Peseiro remains uncertain.
Peseiro’s one-year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expired in May, and negotiations for an extension are ongoing.
This has led to confusion regarding who will be in charge when the Super Eagles take to the pitch at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 10.
Amidst the chaos, Omeruo, who currently plays for Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa, emphasizes the need for a resolution.
“Nigeria possesses exceptional talent,” Omeruo stated during an interview with Arise TV.
“Even those players who are on the bench for the national team consistently perform exceptionally for their club sides, scoring goals week in and week out.
“What we need is a stable and competent coaching staff. A well-equipped technical crew will guide us to reach our full potential and provide the kind of guidance we see in European football.”
Omeruo continued, “The fact that we do not even know who will be coaching the team in the next game is unbelievable and must be addressed.”
The Super Eagles have already secured their place in the 2023 AFCON tournament.
