The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to alleviating the temporary hardships faced by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidy. In a courtesy visit by Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger, Mr Idris assured that the President is working tirelessly to address the negative impacts of this decision and minimize its effects in the shortest time possible.
Mr Idris acknowledged that times are tough and that Mr President is fully aware of the difficulties faced by Nigerians resulting from the fuel subsidy removal and the economic downturn. However, he emphasized that the removal of the fuel subsidy is in the best interest of Nigeria, and President Tinubu has repeatedly stated that the pain caused by the removal will be temporary and the positive outcomes will soon become apparent.
The Minister revealed that considerable savings have been made from the removal of subsidy, a portion of which has already been sent to the states as a form of relief. Each state has received N5 billion, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has received N2 billion as an initial step to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal. Mr Idris acknowledges that this is not enough, but it is the first necessary measure taken by the President to mitigate the pain experienced by Nigerians.
Furthermore, Mr Idris made it known that President Tinubu is committed to restoring Nigeria’s image in the international community. He has given a mandate to his cabinet members to ensure that Nigerians begin to experience the positive impacts of his renewed hope agenda. During a recent meeting with the newly constituted Federal Executive Council (FEC), the President reiterated the urgency to implement the eight priority areas of his administration so that every sector and facet of Nigerian lives can experience a positive transformation.
In response, Governor Bago expressed full support for Tinubu’s administration and his renew hope agenda. He assured the Minister of Niger State’s commitment to driving the President’s vision and offered the collaboration of the state government to overcome any challenges that may arise. The Governor also urged the Minister to promote the potential of Niger State and attract international investment, emphasizing the state’s abundance in agriculture and its ability to contribute to food security.
It is evident that President Tinubu is actively working to address the pains caused by the fuel subsidy removal, and his commitment to enhancing the lives of Nigerians remains steadfast. With a focus on restoring Nigeria’s image and fulfilling the aspirations of his renewed hope agenda, Nigerians can anticipate positive change in the near future.
