Jigawa: Gov Namadi warns against diversion of palliative items

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has warned the palliatives distribution committee against the diversion of the items.

The governor gave the warning on Friday at the flagg off of the statewide distribution of palliative food and cash held at Gumel.

He said the items were to be distributed only to the needy, orphans, people with disabilities, and elderly persons across the state.

Governor Namadi explained that the palliative distribution is meant to support families from the economic hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal.

According to him, “47,412 bags of rice, would be shared to the general public according to polling units across the state while 33,329 cartons of spaghetti, and 8,300 bags of maize would be shared to the less privileged citizens”

Also, the sum of N40,000,000.00 to each of the 27 local governments in the state to be shared to 108,000 (N10,000 per person for 4,000 people in each local government ),” Damadi stated.

He urged the distribution committee to ensure the palliatives reach the targeted beneficiaries across the 287 wards in the state.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Haruna Abdullahi Mairiga, said the gesture was part of the present administration’s commitment towards the eradication of hunger and poverty in the state.

He said the collection of the palliative items would be at Dutse (Warwade), Ringim, Hadeja, Gumel and Bimin, and Kudu, local governments.
