Tinubu Commends Prof Amadi for Winning Nigeria Prize for Science

President Bola Tinubu has joined Nigerians, academia, and the scientific community in congratulating Professor Hippolite Amadi for winning the prestigious 2023 edition of The Nigeria Prize for Science.

The Advisory Board of The Nigeria Prize for Science announced on Thursday that Prof Amadi’s groundbreaking work in respiratory technologies for preserving the lives of newborn babies has earned him the esteemed recognition.

In his award-winning invention, Prof Amadi has developed a range of respiratory technologies, including a non-invasive neonatal ventilator, an oxygen delivery blender system, and an oxygen splitter system, all powered by solar energy.

A Pioneer in Medical Technology

Prof Amadi, a distinguished Professor of Medical Technology at Imo State University and a visiting Professor of Medical Engineering and Technology at Imperial College London, has dedicated his career to advancing healthcare through innovative solutions.

Transforming Neonatal Care

President Tinubu commended Prof Amadi’s ingenious healthcare solution, which has not only significantly reduced neonatal care costs but also saved lives in hospitals that have adopted the use of the solar-powered neonatal ventilator.

The President praised Prof Amadi for utilizing his extensive background in medical engineering and technology to address the pressing need for affordable medical systems, benefiting Nigeria and humanity at large.

President Tinubu extended his gratitude to Nigeria LNG Limited for awarding Prof Amadi the prestigious $100,000 prize for his pioneering work in neonatal care innovation.

He highlighted that this gesture aligns with the Nigerian government’s commitment to fostering collaborations with the private sector and academia to drive success in critical sectors of the country’s economy, including healthcare, education, technology, and innovation.
