Nigeria Clinches 3rd Place in Africa Women’s Handball with a 28-24 Victory over Angola

In an exhilarating match at the ongoing Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Monastir, Tunisia, Nigeria’s under-18 Women Handball Team secured third place by defeating their Angola counterparts with a score of 28-24. This remarkable comeback came just a day after their disappointing loss to Egypt in the semi-finals.

The Nigerian team displayed incredible determination from the start, taking an early lead in the first half with a score of 12-7 against the Angola girls. They maintained their winning momentum in the second half, ultimately emerging victorious with a final score of 28-24.

Coach Shittu Agboola expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, despite the disappointment of not making it to the final. He emphasized the importance of their qualification for the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, underscoring it as a significant achievement for the team.

In the final match of the championship, Egypt, the defending champion, demonstrated their dominance by defeating Guinea with a resounding score of 29-16. With this victory, Egypt retained their title and were crowned the champion of the 2023 Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship.

The 19th edition of the Africa Women’s Championship, which began on September 16, has now concluded. This thrilling competition has showcased the immense talent and skill of young female handball players from across the continent.
