Taraba Governor Claims Inheriting Empty Treasury from Predecessor, Darius Ishaku

The Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, has raised allegations that he inherited an empty treasury from his predecessor, Darius Ishaku.

Mr Kefas made this revelation on Monday during the opening of a five-day workshop focused on professional development for secretaries in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in Jalingo, the state capital.

The governor, represented by the state’s head of civil service, Suzie Nathan, emphasized that despite facing financial challenges, his administration has remained steadfast in ensuring the prompt payment of workers’ salaries.

“I inherited an empty treasury from my predecessor, Darius Ishaku. I found nothing in the treasury for my administration to commence the governance of the state,” stated Mr Kefas.

“Despite the challenging financial situation we encountered, I have made it a priority to ensure that employees receive their salaries in a timely manner.”

“We have also placed a strong emphasis on the payment of pensions, and we have taken the necessary steps to enroll retirees who were previously not receiving their pensions,” added the governor.

Mr Kefas further announced that the state government would soon initiate a comprehensive biometric data capturing process to accurately determine the size of the workforce in the state civil service.

Assuring transparency in future recruitment, the governor stated that capable young individuals would soon be employed, while also guaranteeing that deserving workers would be promoted to the next grade levels.
