The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, October 2nd as a public holiday in observance of the country’s 63rd independence celebration. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.

As Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora prepare to mark this significant day, the Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to all citizens. He also reassured the nation of the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the various challenges Nigeria currently faces.

Dr Tunji-Ojo acknowledged that the socio-economic and security challenges the country is grappling with are not unique to Nigeria alone but are part of a global phenomenon. Nevertheless, the Minister emphasized that the government remains resolute in its efforts to confront these issues with determination and vigour until solutions are found.

Furthermore, Dr Tunji-Ojo stressed the importance of unity in achieving Nigeria’s potential as a leading black nation in the world. As the nation celebrates its independence, the Minister urged Nigerians to remember the sacrifices made by the founding fathers, who transcended religious, ethnic, and linguistic barriers to fight for the nation’s freedom. He expressed confidence that the present government, through its “Renewed Hope” agenda, will continue working towards building a better Nigeria that pays homage to the heroes of the past.
