The Governor of Niger State, Hon. Umar Bago, is calling on Nigerlites to prioritize what unites them as a nation, rather than what could potentially cause division within the state.
Governor Bago made this statement during the 63rd Independence Day prayer session, organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Minna.
Representing the governor, the Commissioner for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Mrs. Elizabeth Shaba, emphasized that the administration is committed to the rapid development of various sectors in the state.
She said, “As a state, we will do everything within our power to achieve our set goals. However, it is crucial that we focus on our unity as a people.”
In his welcome address, the State Chairman of CAN, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, highlighted the importance of unity amongst the people in the state. He emphasized that the oneness of Nigeria remains advantageous despite the challenges faced as a nation.
In his message titled “Let Us Focus on What Unites Us More as a People,” he said, “As we pray and intercede for our nation today and always, I urge us to reflect on what unites us as a people, rather than what divides us.
“I encourage you to use the Independence Day celebration as an opportunity for deeper and sober reflection on the nation’s journey over the past decades, and I am confident that we will find more reasons to be grateful to God.”
The cleric further urged the people to pray for leaders at all levels, requesting that God grant them the wisdom and courage to effectively manage diversity.
