A prominent socio-cultural group in Nasarawa State, known as Afo Youth Mobility, has raised serious concerns regarding the deplorable state of the LGEA Primary School in the Agam community, located within Nasarawa Local Government Area (LGA).
Expressing deep dismay in a statement released on Monday, Barrister Dauda Kana, the chairman of the group, emphasized that the current condition of the school is the primary reason why numerous pupils have discontinued their education.
“The physical state of the primary school is nothing short of distressing. The classroom buildings suffer from severe dilapidation, evident in crumbling walls, damaged windows, and leaky roofs, with some even lacking roofs altogether. These abysmal conditions severely hinder the learning process,” he stated.
Kana further highlighted that the school is lacking essential amenities, such as clean drinking water and sanitary facilities, aggravating the dire situation and further demotivating students from attending.
“It is disheartening that the students are denied access to basic amenities such as clean drinking water and sanitary facilities. The absence of these crucial resources exacerbates the already dire circumstances and has forced students to remain at home,” he added.
The chairman underscored the severe lack of resources in the primary school, citing a shortage of textbooks, teaching materials, and basic classroom furniture. This deprivation poses a significant obstacle to quality education.
“Perhaps, the most distressing aspect of our assessment is the impact these conditions have on our pupils. Many of them are compelled to drop out of school due to the deplorable state of affairs, resulting in shattered dreams and untapped potential, as they face a bleak future devoid of education,” he lamented.
Appealing to all stakeholders involved, the Afo Youth Mobility group urged immediate and united action to salvage the future of these children, emphasizing that primary education forms the foundation of all learning.
