Protesters scale town hall in England, pulls down Israeli flag

A council chief in England has stated “this isn’t what we stand for’’ after an Israeli flag was pulled down from a town hall flag pole.

Video footage posted on social media confirmed two individuals scaling Sheffield town hall throughout a pro-Palestinian demonstration in town centre on Tuesday night.

The flag was seen to be thrown from the landmark 60-metre excessive Victorian construction and changed with the Palestinian flag, to cheers from these gathered under.

Reports that the Israeli flag was subsequently destroyed weren’t true, in accordance with a Sheffield City Council spokeswoman who stated it was handed again to officers from the native authority.

Council chief Tom Hunt stated: “everybody has the best to secure and peaceable protest however we can’t assist the occasions that happened through the protest exterior Sheffield’s town hall.

“Protesters put themselves and others in critical hazard.

“We are a City of Sanctuary, and this isn’t what we stand for.’’

The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday and the council hoisted the Union Jack flag at 8 p.m., a transfer it stated was deliberate earlier than this occurred.

The spokeswoman stated the council had displayed the Israeli flag to point out solidarity.
