In an effort to fulfill the mandate of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), the Nigerian government has pledged to ensure that all its Ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), as well as the private sector, register technology transfer agreements.
Speaking at the commissioning of the headquarters of NOTAP in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology Uche Nnaji emphasized the importance of promoting indigenous technological activities in the country. He commended NOTAP for its achievements and stressed the need for a conducive work environment to enhance efficiency and productivity.
“The commissioning of this project is a landmark achievement for NOTAP and a testament to the strategic importance attached to the technological advancement of our dear country,” said Minister Nnaji.
Under the leadership of Dr. DanAzumi Ibrahim, Director General of NOTAP, significant milestones have been accomplished. The process of registering technology transfer agreements has been automated, support has been provided to researchers, industrial partnerships have been strengthened, and university laboratories improved. Additionally, staff welfare has been prioritized.
Dr. Ibrahim highlighted that the agency has saved the country N74.13 billion, which would have otherwise been lost as capital flight. Moreover, NOTAP’s internally generated revenue has increased by 100%. The funding for the corporate headquarters was obtained from the Office’s internally generated revenue, demonstrating prudent resource management.
“I am grateful that we have finally realized the goal of providing NOTAP with a befitting headquarters complex during my tenure. This achievement was made possible through the unwavering support and commitment of the entire management and staff,” Dr. Ibrahim expressed.
With this commitment to technology transfer and the registration of MDAs, Nigeria is well-positioned to further advance its technological capabilities, promote innovation, and drive economic growth.
