Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule Takes APC and INEC to Court Over Tribunal Judgment

In a surprising turn of events, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has decided to challenge the verdict of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT) in Lafia, the state capital. The tribunal’s ruling stripped him of his position and declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected governor.

Following the tribunal’s decision, Governor Sule has instructed his legal team to appeal the judgment. However, in a bewildering twist, his legal counsel has now initiated a fresh appeal aimed at certain individuals perceived to be the governor’s allies.

According to a document obtained by Media Talk Africa, Governor Sule has filed a lawsuit against Ombugadu, the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and even his own political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Interestingly, David Ombugadu and the PDP have filed a cross-appeal against Governor Sule’s appeal at the Court of Appeal in Markurdi.

The document lists INEC, Abdullahi Sule, and the APC as the first, second, and third respondents, respectively.

It is worth noting that the tribunal’s judgment, which removed Governor Sule from office, was a majority decision in favor of David Ombugadu of the PDP. However, a minority judgment upheld Sule’s position as the duly elected governor.
